Information

Four Alpine regions - Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Lombardy, Salzburg and Valle d’Aosta - active in EUSALP (European macroregional strategy for the Alpine region) will present inspiring projects and initiatives on sustainable development of mountain destinations, territories and tourism in a context of green transition and economic recovery. Mountain resorts and tourist territories are facing major uncertainties, due to climate change and the COVID crisis, but are developing initiatives and measures to reduce risks and face the challenges. These examples of potential resources and solutions may be of interest for other regions and stakeholders facing similar difficulties in other mountain, rural or remote territories in Europe and may contribute to the discussions on the European Agenda for Tourism 2050.

Four regional case studies will be presented, each followed by a round table discussion with other speakers and interaction with the audience:

1) How to use Alpine natural resources for the development of innovative tourism: the example of health tourism with a specific emphasis on the Interreg Alpine space Healps2 project: Salzburg

2) Green and smart transition in Valle d'Aosta illustrated by examples of innovative practices developed to promote sustainable tourist experiences in a mountain region.

3) Mountain destinations and territories: sustainability and governance in the context of the Green Deal: Lombardy. Illustrated by a video on “Sustainable Winter Olympics in 2026 – Milano-Cortina”.

4) EUSALP project to create a network of mountain stations and territories undergoing transition pathways: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
