Workshop
Territorial Cohesion

Information

This workshop is devoted to discussing and exchanging on the support from and to local and regional authorities for building thriving social economy ecosystems.

It will give an overview of the ways local and regional authorities can support the social economy and how the social economy action plan can support them in using existing resources and creating new opportunities. The workshop will provide information about EU funding opportunities for cities and regions to support their social economy, and about policy frameworks for its development.

Join the session if you are interested in examples of best practices of how public authorities and stakeholders can strategically build a strong social economy and use social innovation for the benefit of the region.

The workshop is organised by the European Commission (DG EMPL, DG REGIO and DG GROW) in cooperation with social economy stakeholders. It will highlight social innovation in cross-border cooperation and in the recovery of the tourism and cultural sectors, and present relevant action on the green and digital transition in the social economy.

Background

The social economy contributes to all four topics of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022: green transition, territorial cohesion, digital transition, and youth empowerment. Watch our animated video explaining what the social economy is about.

The Action plan for the social economy was adopted by the European Commission in December 2021. Support from local and regional authorities is one key factor for building thriving economy ecosystems, and the European Week of Regions and Cities is therefore a good opportunity to discuss the action plan with representatives of regions and cities.
