The session will present examples and discuss how the European Green Capital Award can serve as a lever for action for local citizen engagement with the green transition. How can citizens be mobilised, and what are the pitfalls to avoid? What is the impact of involving citizens as actors? At the workshop, concrete examples will be presented, along with analysis by two former Green Capitals, Essen and Lahti, the current one, Grenoble, and Tallinn, Green Capital 2023.
